Power in Numbers

El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido!

I recently came across a documentary called "The Corporation". While this gem is lengthy (about 2 hours and 15 minutes), it is time well spent! This film, directed by Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott, is a shoe in. It addresses the common fears and tribulations of uneasy consumers. This documentary does more than present facts regarding how the careless and uneducated choices of millions of consumers will one day destroy most everything we hold dear - it gives a sliver hope.

It reminds us that this "thing" we are fighting and this daily ambiance of anxiety and alienation came from our own hands and can therefore be broken down by none other. WE, THE PEOPLE have the power to bring this world back to normalcy if we so choose. Unfortunately, making that choice is neither as easy as it is uniform. Many still do not see how going to work at a McDonalds, Walmart, or Goodyear is slowly but surely dragging society to a place where life can no longer thrive. And for most, it is not even a choice to be made- it is a matter of survival. Still, there are small changes we can all make. For example, taking the time to read up on items you use everyday. Research the companies that produce them, see what kind of impact they are making in this world (whether it be negative or positive). Also, do not make excessive purchases, only buy things that you really need and will use. I can't even count the number of times I have purchased something I could have easily and happily lived without! Finally, buy items that are made of recyclable or reusable materials and- don't forget to reuse and recycle them! Also, make sure the item you're buying is true blue, meaning it truly is promoting what the label claims it is. Many corporations are buying into this new "Green Market" because that is what's trendy right now. Make sure you READ LABLES, check for things like parabens, sulfates, and other things that are hard to pronounce and are likely to be carcinogenic. Another thing is to be weary of is plastic, any kind. Here's a good guide when it comes to understanding your plastics:
By boycotting these fatal ingredients, we are at least telling corporations what products to make and which ones we refuse to buy. It is a baby step but, after all, Rome was not built in a day! The best place to start the protest is in your own home. Create habits that are healthy not only for you but for this Earth.

And while it is heart wrenching to know that the world we live in, this beautiful and bountiful haven, can harbor such manipulative, malicious, and truly evil people whose soulless intentions create victims of so many, it is a relief to know that, "El pueblo unido, jamás será vencido", meaning: The People United Shall Never Be Defeated!
There is nothing stronger than the power in numbers, and there is nothing stronger than We, The People!
